최근 KBS에서 방영되고 있는 '고려거란전쟁'과 영화 '노량' 등으로 3대 대첩에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있습니다.
이에 최초의 대첩을 이끌었던 을지문덕의 의문스러운 삶에 대하여 짧게 포스팅해보려 합니다.
Eulji Mundeok Life Mystery
The three great battles in Korean history refer to the Battle of Salsu by Eulji Mundeok, the Battle of Guizhou by Kang Gam-chan, and the Battle of Hansando by Yi Sun-sin.
Recently, interest in the three great battles is increasing due to the "Corea Khitan War" and the movie "Noryang" which re being aired on KBS.
Therefore, I would like to briefly post about the mysterious life of Eulji Mundeok, who led the first confrontation.
역사에 갑자기 나타났다 사라진 의문의 인물인 을지문덕 장군은 한국사 3대 대첩 중 하나인 살수대첩을 이끈 최고의 명장입니다.
평양에서 출생했을 것이라는 것, 그리고 고구려 영양왕 재위 시절 중국 수나라와의 전쟁 당시 고구려를 지켜낸 장수라는 것이 전부입니다.
General Eulji Mundeok, a mysterious figure who suddenly appeared and disappeared in history, is the best master who led the Battle of Salsu, one of the three great battles of Korean history.
It is all about being born in Pyongyang, and being a general who protected Goguryeo during the war against China's Su during the reign of King Yeongyang of Goguryeo.
삼국사기에는 이렇게 전하고 있습니다.
'울지문덕의 출생지와 가문의 계보 등이 불확실해서 알 수 없다'
따라서 실존했지만, 어떤 삶을 살았는지에 대해서는 의문으로 남아 있습니다.
This is how it is told in the History of the Three Kingdoms.
"The birthplace of Uljimundeok and the genealogy of the family are uncertain, so we don't know."
So it existed, but it remains a question of what kind of life you lived.
현재까지 남아 있는 가설을 보면, 고구려 권력은 전통 귀족들이 통제하고 있습니다.
이에 전통 귀족세력들을 견제할 수 있는 신흥 귀족세력이 필요했고, 그렇게 등용된 인재였다는 것입니다.
그렇기에 살수대첩 이전의 기록에는 을지문덕에 대한 관련 자료가 부족할 수밖에 없었다는 것입니다.

또 다른 가설은 귀화한 선비족의 이민족 출신으로 '여수전쟁' 이후 바로 사망하였기에 살수대첩 이전과 이후 기록이 전무할 수밖에 없다는 것입니다.
이 가설은 고고학계의 논란을 가져왔는데요.
을지문덕의 성씨인 '을지'가 선비 귀족의 성씨 가운데 하나인 '울지'와 음가가 비슷하다는 것입니다.
이 울지씨의 가문은 580년 수문제가 찬탈을 꾀할 당시에 '울지형'이 이를 막다가 죽음을 당하자 고구려로 망명해 왔다는 것입니다.
Another hypothesis is that there is no record before and after the Battle of Salsu because he died immediately after the 'Yeosu War' as a native of a naturalized Seonbi tribe.
This hypothesis has caused controversy in the archaeological community.
Eulji Mundeok's last name, Eulji, has a similar pitch to Ulji, one of the last names of the scholar aristocrats.
Lee's family fled to Goguryeo when "Wool Ji-hyung" was killed while blocking it when Sui-won tried to usurp the country in 580.
이렇듯 가설로만 남아 있는 을지문덕의 생애는 더욱 미스터리할 수밖에 없는 것이 현실입니다.
